Network background
InsurePride, formerly known as the Interinsurance Network, was established in 2018 following the legalisation of marriage equality in Australia. It’s formation came together with stakeholders from across insurance industry firms along with affiliate members joining to discuss how we as an industry might advance LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace. And with the support and promotion of Pride in Diversity, the Interinsurance was born.
While it has grown over the years, the foundation has remained the same: Where members can share their knowledge and experience for the benefit of employees, our customers, community and industry.
A reporting catalyst and evolving purpose
With the momentum gained from the Worth The Risk Report released in conjunction with The Victorian Pride Lobby mid 2022, a proposal to re-brand the network to InsurePride was met with unanimous support from its members. With that update to the brand identity at the start of 2023, the group began to evolve and gain more traction within the insurance industry.
With momentum building, in 2024 InsurePride began to engage with Industry bodies such as The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA), InsurePride explored the idea of becoming an incorporated association. On Jun 27th, 2024, InsurePride officially became an incorporated association, and within a month of announcing it already had our first few partners on board.
With InsurePride now having the ability to take on funding, it expands advocacy efforts and invest in further research pieces beyond the Worth The Risk Report, and will help support us to continue making insurers more LGBTQIA+ inclusive for our community.
